Laser Genesis Skin Therapy is used to reduce fine lines (i.e. crow’s feet and smile lines), wrinkles, scars, freckles, rosacea, pore size, erythema, blotchiness, certain types of birthmarks and fresh stretch marks (red hue).

Laser Genesis is also used to improve skin texture. The therapy is a comfortable, non-ablative and non-invasive anti aging treatment. We use the Cutera Excel V™ to treat excessive facial redness (hyperemia), neck redness or red neck (poikiloderma) and dark lentigines (dark pigmented lesions). Excel V™ is the only laser that can safely and effectively remove pigmented lesions from patients with darker skin tones.

How does it work?

Laser Genesis gently heats the upper dermis well below your skin’s surface, collagen regrowth is stimulated. The new collagen growth reduces fine lines, wrinkles, scars, stretch marks, pore size and improves skin tone and texture. Additional heat is generated in dilated capillaries to reduce redness. Excel V™ delivers a unique, high power green laser that eliminates the abnormal blood vessels and pigmented lesions in the skin.

What areas can be treated?

We typically treat the entire face and neck, as well as other areas of the body.

What is diffuse redness?

Diffuse redness is a general appearance of facial redness, such as rosy cheeks, and is often associated with a condition called rosacea, which can be hereditary. This condition is caused by dilated capillaries, resulting in an appearance of general redness as opposed to discrete, well-defined vessels. The most commonly affected areas are the nose, forehead and cheeks. We can help your appearance by gently treating and reducing this condition.

What can I expect before the treatment?

You will need to remove make-up or moisturizers and, in some cases, the area to be treated may need to be shaved. Gel, anesthetic or ice is not required for this treatment.

What does the procedure feel like?

Patients often describe the Laser Genesis procedure as relaxing and therapeutic. You will experience a gentle warming of your skin’s surface during the procedure as we move the laser handpiece back and forth about ½ inch above your skin. After the treatment you can immediately return to your normal activities, however, you will need to utilize sunscreen when going outdoors. Most Excel V™ patients experience a stinging sensation as the pulses of energy are delivered through the handpiece. Although no local anesthesia or pain medication is typically required, some patients opt to use a topical anesthetic prior to treatment. Following the treatment, the discomfort is minimal to nonexistent.

How many treatments will I need?

Laser Genesis Skin Therapy treatment results are often subtle. On average, 4 to 6 treatments are required to achieve optimal results. Every patient’s condition and needs vary. We will determine a treatment course and what results you can expect during your consultation. The number of Excel V™ treatments required depends on various parameters, including the size, thickness and color of the lesion. Our physicians will determine the number of treatments required during your consultation.

What are the possible side effects?

Although most patients report few if any side effects, for Laser Genesis Skin Therapy the most common is a slight redness that disappears within a few hours of treatment. For Excel V™, the most common side effects are slight reddening and swelling of the skin. Some patients may experience bruising and, in rare instances, blistering may occur.

How long will it take for the treatment results to be apparent?

Over the course of 4 to 6 treatments, Laser Genesis Skin Therapy can help restore the skin’s youthful glow and appearance by smoothing out uneven textures caused by aging, sun damage or scars. You will see a more creamy, healthy complexion as large pores are reduced in size and minor imperfections are diminished. The individual treatment results are subtle, but the overall effect of multiple treatments can be quite dramatic over the course of several months. With Excel V™, most patients find that the majority of the treated veins and lesions have shown significant improvement within 2 to 6 weeks of treatment. Final results, however, may not be apparent for several months.
